The much anticipated cyclocross race, Darkcross, took place yesterday. Darkcross (darkcross.ca) takes place at the Co-op Red River Speedway. It’s the only race in the circuit that takes place at night.
This was the first year that both Jason and myself are participating competitively in Manitoba’s cyclocross circuit. We will both be racing in ‘B’ class for this season (unless Jason is forced to go to ‘A’. The race was a big challenge for myself. Reflecting on my performance I think I treated it too much like a mountain bike race where pacing oneself is an integral part of a successful strategy. Yesterday I learned that there is NO pacing in cyclocross!! I ended up finishing somewhere in the middle of the pack, while Jason absolutely dominated the race, consequently winning the ‘B’ class sprint! Reflection on the race by Jason revealed no surprises. Simply put he’s a machine who lives for competition. Congratulations Jason!
